By Implementing the requirements detailed in this procedure, the residential home ensures that all residents are facilitated to self-medicate where the risks have been assessed and the competence of the resident to self-administer is confirmed (HIQA, 2016). Residents who are self-medicating are provided with education and information in a manner which is appropriate for them.
